Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026
This policy explains what Soltar collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Soltar is run by Elsa Edward Amri, Calle Cronista Carreres 10, Ground Floor, Ciutat Vella, 46003 Valencia, Spain. We are the data controller for the information described here.
For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, email info@heysoltar.io.
Who can use Soltar
You must be at least 16 to use Soltar. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child under 16 has an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
The heysoltar.io website
This policy covers our website as well as the app. The website collects less, and none of it is connected to a Soltar account.
The waitlist. If you join the waitlist we store the email address you enter, and a short tag for where you arrived from — a campaign name, or the site that linked you. Never anything about you personally. We use your address to send you one confirmation email, and to tell you when Soltar launches. We keep it until you ask us to remove it, or for two years after launch, whichever comes first.
Removing yourself. Every confirmation email has a link that takes your address off the list immediately. You don’t need to reply or explain, and it works whether or not it was you who signed up. You can also email info@heysoltar.io.
Stopping abuse. When you submit the form we store a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address — a salted hash — so we can count how many times the same source has submitted and stop the form being used to send mail to people who never asked for it. We do not store the address itself, the scrambled version cannot be turned back into one, and it is held separately from your email address with nothing linking the two. It is deleted after 24 hours.
Analytics. Our website uses Vercel’s analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. See Who we share it with below.
What we collect
Your account. Your email address, and how you signed in (email code, Apple or Google). If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a relay address rather than your real one.
Your profile. Your name, pronouns, the languages you’re learning, your level in each, the tutor you chose, and why you’re learning. You give us these during setup and can change them in Settings.
What you create. Your conversations with your tutor and the messages in them, lessons you type, upload, record or generate, vocabulary and verbs you save, tags, messages and corrections you bookmark, and any conjugation reports you submit.
Voice recordings. When you speak in a conversation, your recording is stored so you can play it back later. Lesson recordings are transcribed on your device and the audio is not uploaded.
Your settings. Audio speed, feedback and listening preferences, your time zone, and whether tutor memory is on.
Subscription information. Whether you have an active subscription, which plan, and when it renews. Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details.
Technical information. Our authentication provider records the IP address and device you sign in from, for security.
Feedback. If you send feedback from within the app, we receive your message. It isn’t linked to your account.
How we use it
To run the app: to hold your lessons, conversations and saved words, and to show them back to you.
To generate what you ask for: your tutor’s replies, translations, lesson parsing, generated lessons, conjugations and spoken audio are produced by AI providers acting on our behalf.
To apply your plan’s limits, and to process your subscription.
To keep the service secure and to respond when you contact us.
Tutor memory
Tutor memory is off unless you turn it on, either when you finish setting up or later in Settings.
When it’s on, your tutor can remember things you tell it in your chats, such as your job, where you live or are travelling, the people you mention and what you enjoy, so it doesn’t have to ask again in every conversation. When a chat finishes, we send that chat’s messages to Anthropic, which picks out short notes about you. We store those notes with your account, separately for each language, and your tutor uses them when it replies.
We instruct this process not to record sensitive information: anything about your health, religion or beliefs, political opinions, trade union membership, racial or ethnic origin, sex life or sexual orientation, relationship difficulties, finances, criminal matters or immigration status, or identifying details such as addresses or phone numbers. Automated filtering can make mistakes, so you can clear everything your tutor remembers for a language at any time in Settings, or ask us for a copy of what’s stored by emailing info@heysoltar.io.
You can turn memory off at any time. While it’s off, your tutor doesn’t use your notes and no new notes are made. Deleting a chat deletes the notes that came from it, deleting a language deletes that language’s notes, and deleting your account deletes all of them. Your name, pronouns, level and reasons for learning, which you give us directly, are always available to your tutor and can be changed in your profile.
Who we share it with
We use the following providers. Each processes data on our behalf, under contract, and only to provide their part of the service.
Anthropic (United States) receives your messages, lesson content and related text to generate tutor replies, translations, explanations, summaries, lessons and conjugations. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models, and are deleted from their systems within 30 days.
ElevenLabs (United States) receives text to convert to speech, and voice recordings to transcribe.
Supabase (United States) hosts our database, authentication and file storage.
RevenueCat (United States) manages subscriptions. It receives your account ID and your subscription status.
Apple processes your payment and manages your subscription. We receive only whether your subscription is active.
Slack (United States) receives in-app feedback you choose to send. It doesn’t include anything that identifies you.
Resend (United States) sends our emails, including sign-in codes and waitlist confirmations.
Vercel (United States) hosts our website and measures how it is used. Its analytics don’t use cookies, don’t follow you to other sites, and don’t store anything that identifies you — they count visits and page views, nothing more.
Transfers outside the European Economic Area are covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Who can see your content
Your lessons, conversations and saved words are yours. Other users can never see them. Our database is encrypted, both stored and in transit, and access is restricted to your own account.
Soltar is run by one person, and that person can technically access the database. We don’t read your content, and we don’t look at it for any purpose other than the ones below: helping you when you contact us and give us permission, investigating a technical fault or suspected abuse of the service, or where the law requires it. We would only disclose your content to authorities if legally compelled, and we’d tell you unless we were prohibited from doing so.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists.
When you delete your account, we delete your profile, conversations, messages, lessons, vocabulary, verbs, tutor memory, saved items, settings and voice recordings. Conjugation reports you submitted are kept but stripped of any link to you, since they are feedback about our content rather than information about you.
Deleting a language deletes everything for that language. Deleting a conversation deletes its messages, recordings and the tutor memory that came from it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or transfer it elsewhere. Most of this you can do yourself in Settings. For anything else, email info@heysoltar.io from the address on your account.
We’ll respond within one month.
You also have the right to complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).
Our legal basis
We process your information to provide the service you’ve asked for, which is the performance of our contract with you. Where you turn on tutor memory, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings. We rely on our legitimate interests for security and for responding to your messages.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for anything significant, tell you in the app.
